The h-index is an author-level metric that measures both the productivity and citation impact of the publications of a scientist or scholar. The h-index correlates with obvious success indicators such as winning the Nobel Prize, being accepted for research fellowships and holding positions at top universities. Hirsch reckons that after 20 years of research, an h-index of 20 is good, 40 is outstanding, and 60 is truly exceptional. In his paper, Hirsch shows that successful scientists do, indeed, have high h-indices: 84% of Nobel prize winners in physics, for example, had an h-index of at least 30. Limitations of the h-Index The H or H-Index is a numerical scale that shows how effective a researcher has been. The index was invented in 2005 by a physicist named George Hirsch at the University of California. The purpose of inventing this numerical scale was to determine how successful each researcher was in their scientific field.

An H below 0.01 (or 100) indicates a highly competitive industry. An H below 0.15 (or 1,500) indicates an unconcentrated industry.

The purpose of inventing this numerical scale was to determine how successful each researcher was in their scientific field. Se hela listan på benchfly.com Basically, the H-index score is a standard scholarly metric in which the number of published papers, and the number of times their author is cited, is put into relation. The formula is based on the number of papers (H) that have been cited, and how often, compared to those that have not been cited (or cited as much). 2020-01-22 · The h-index, however, would be much lower, signifying that the scientist's overall body of work was not necessarily as significant.
